Virtual Reality

This virtual reality project was a smaller assignment that I worked on in the third grade of communication and multimedia design. The assignment was to create a 'futuristic' education experience.

This project's theme was quite interesting. My team and I decided to recreate an university campus that would function as a town. The students would live in this 'town' and gain experience in their field of work by both work and a playful form of education. On top of that we decided that the education should be highly customizable to the students: the students would design their own courses to follow.

My task within this project was to design a visual representation of the concept. To do this, I decided to create a virtual reality tour to immerse the user and let them experience our idea of a 'futuristic' education experience.

To create this virtual reality tour I used Unity as I already had experience with the engine. This way I could work as efficiently as possible and ensure a quality product. The final product was specifically designed for Android, as to increase its accessibility.

I wanted the product to be as immersive as possible. That is why I wanted the user to be able to move and explore the tour at his own pace. To walk, the user would have to tilt his head just a little bit down. In the end, I am really glad how much of an addition this was to the virtual reality tour.

Augmented reality

This augmented reality application was specifically designed for our (practice) client, Landerij de Park, during my first year of communication and multimedia design. The (practice) client requested an innovative product that would add an extra experience to Landerij de Park.

For this project my team decided to bring the historical monuments back to life. To accomplish this we made use of augmented reality, as most of the area's history was lost and forgotten. With augmented reality users could use their phone to scan a picture or plaque to get a representation of what the monument was supposed to look like.

My role within the team was to turn the concept into a product. For this I used Unity and Vuforia to achieve the augmented reality we were aiming for. To create 3D models of the monuments, I used Blender.
